COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Police in Columbus said a 22-year-old man has been charged after parachuting off a 900-foot broadcast tower on the Ohio State University campus.

Police said the man scaled the tower Friday afternoon and then jumped from the top, landing in a cornfield where he was arrested.

Ohio State police told The Columbus Dispatch that James Hare of Pickerington told officers that he’s a base jumper and that he’s jumped from about 70 structures.

He was charged with misdemeanor criminal trespassing.

Hare couldn’t be reached for comment. There was no telephone listing for him in the Columbus area.

Ohio State police said it’s the first time they’ve known about anyone jumping from the tower on the western edge of the campus.
