WVU seeks to raise graduation rate

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia University is working to raise its graduation rate, which has increased slightly in recent years.
In 2011-12, the WVU undergraduate graduation rate was 57 percent. The rate is based on students who complete their degree within six years of enrolling.
When compared nationally, the rate is about average. Among WVU’s peers, however, the median graduation rate is 66 percent.
WVU’s graduation rate has gone up the past few years, from 55 percent in 2007-’08.
Elizabeth Dooley is the associate provost for undergraduate academic affairs. She said that seemingly small 2 percent jump is “huge.”
A 2 percent increase in this year’s graduating class would mean about 100 more students are leaving WVU with a degree in hand.
