A 17-year-old East Bethlehem Township boy was arrested Thursday afternoon for allegedly burglarizing the home of an elderly Vestaburg woman that morning.

Township police Chief Mark Pompe said he found bank statements belonging to the woman in the boy’s room. The boy’s mother called Pompe after becoming concerned about her son’s demeanor.

Pompe said he also found suspected marijuana and paraphernalia in the boy’s room.

The victim told police she heard a noise about 2 a.m. Stolen were $1,000 in fifty-cent pieces and an additional $1,025. The 17-year-old admitted to breaking into the home, Pompe said.

The teenager will be charged in a juvenile allegation with burglary, theft, receiving stolen property and possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. He will be placed in the Jefferson County (Ohio) Juvenile Detention Center.
