State unemployment rate drops in April

The unemployment rate in Pennsylvania dropped to 7.6 percent in April from 7.9 percent in March, the state announced this morning.
The number of unemployed people fell by 17,000 to 496,000, which was the third largest decrease after March and July 1983.
April’s unemployment rate was more than half of a percentage point below January’s rate of 8.2 percent, where it topped out after climbing from the March 2012 rate of 7.6 percent. The state unemployment rate has not been below 7.6 percent since March 2009.
Pennsylvania still has a slightly higher unemployment rate than the national rate of 7.5 percent.
