YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) – Police in a northeast Ohio community report a number of black bear sightings.

Police in Liberty Township near Youngstown said they have received several calls regarding bears in the area in recent days.

According to The (Youngstown) Vindicator, the police department Web page warns residents to remain calm if they see a bear.

It says black bears are nonaggressive and prefer to flee when they are aware of a person’s presence.

If the bear doesn’t leave the area, the police advise avoiding eye contact and backing away slowly.
