Charleroi woman jailed in burglary
A Charleroi woman faces burglary and other charges after she climbed through the window of a neighbor’s apartment early Sunday.
Charleroi Regional police charged Erika Lee Rusnak, 25, of 404 Lookout Ave., Apt. 3, with burglary, criminal trespass, loitering and prowling at night and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police were called about 5:30 a.m. to the apartment of Kylee Franks, also of 404 Lookout. Franks told police Rusnak had come through a bedroom window and was standing by her child’s playpen. Franks told police she saw Rusnak bent down by the playpen. At first she thought it was her other daughter, but when she put on her glasses, she realized it was Rusnak, who was wearing a blue Penn State hooded sweatshirt, long black basketball shorts and flip-flops.
When Franks yelled, Rusnak ran out the front door. Franks told police Rusnak lived in an upstairs apartment.
When police went to Rusnak’s apartment, she claimed she was sleeping. Police then determined that Rusnak’s husband, Paul Rusnak, 30, was wanted on a warrant. Both were taken into custody, and arrangements were made for a relative to take their two children.
When Paul Rusnak went to the bedroom to retrieve a shirt, police saw the clothing his wife had been wearing on the floor.
Paul Rusnak was taken to the Washington County jail on the probation warrant. His wife was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller on the burglary-related charges and placed in jail on $25,000 bond.
