A Washington County jury Friday awarded $428,040 to Hockran Excavating, doing business as H&H Enterprises, in connection with a natural gas transmission pipeline replacement project nearly four years ago in Peters Township.

Hockran, of Meadville, Crawford County, was seeking damages from Meridien Energy LLC, of Randolph, N.Y.

In June 2008, Meridien entered into an agreement with Equitrans to have approximately 10 miles of 16-inch underground steel pipeline installed. Hockran, a subcontractor to Meridien, agreed to drill horizontal pipelines within a gas line right-of-way in the vicinity of Route 19, Old Washington Road and Ammons Drive, within a particular amount of time beginning June 1, 2009.

Hockran contended it encountered unforeseen problems and convinced the jury of its position in its breach-of-contract case against Meridien, which had initiated the litigation.

Presiding at the trial was President Judge Debbie O’Dell Seneca.
