Students and teachers interested in learning more about careers in mining are invited to sign up for a week-long camp that will be held next month at the Westmoreland County Community College’s Greene County Education Center.
Southwest Training Services Inc., a service provider for the Southwest Corner Workforce Investment Board, will conduct the Mining Technology Camp for students and youth ages 16 to19.
This year, the agency also is inviting local high school teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators to attend the camp. Act 48 credits will be provided for any educator and First Aid/CPR certifications will be offered for all who attend.
The camp will be held at Greene County Education Center in EverGreene Technology Park, next to the county airport, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from June 10 to June 14.
The agency is working in collaboration with Penn State-Fayette and Westmoreland County Community College, Greene County Education Center; Greene County PA CareerLink and the Mine Technology Training Center to provide all aspects of the camp.
This year’s camp is sponsored by Alpha Natural Resources, Cleveland Brother, Consol Energy and the R.G. Johnson Corp.
The number of spaces is limited. To sign up, contact Melissa Ziegler at 724-852-2900, extension 248, or email: mziegler@swtraining.org.
