Hospital Foundation gives tuition assistance awards
WAYNESBURG – The Greene County Memorial Hospital Foundation, on behalf of the Auxiliary of Southwest Regional Medical Center, has once again presented multiple tuition assistance awards to local students and nurses pursuing advanced medical degrees.
Medical student Lindsey Beabout from Rices Landing has completed her fourth year of medical school and received her fourth $25,000 award, while Rebecca Lash, a nursing student from Graysville, was awarded $5,000.
For the third consecutive year, the foundation presented Greene County nurses pursuing a certified registered nurse practitioner license with tuition assistance awards. Julie Beiter, Kristin Hopkins and Brad Mackey all are currently employed as nurses, but intend to acquire certification as nurse practitioners.
• Beiter is currently the case manager for Southwest Regional Medical and has been accepted into Robert Morris University’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program.
• Hopkins is also employed at Southwest Regional Medical Center in the Intensive Care Unit and has already begun her advanced schooling at Wheeling Jesuit University.
• Mackey is currently employed at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and plans to focus his efforts on working with children once he completes his training at West Virginia University’s School of Nursing. The awards, which cover credits obtained at the rate of $500, will vary due to the varying program requirements.
All tuition assistance awards are granted on behalf of the Auxiliary of Southwest Regional Medical Center, which raises money through their work at Southwest Regional Medical Center and the Cherry Door, a thrift shop at 244 Elm Drive in Waynesburg.
To be eligible to receive a tuition assistance award, the individual must be a Greene County resident and agree to practice medicine in Greene County once they have obtained their degree or certification.
This year, the foundation expects to provide more than $50,000 in scholarships and awards to Greene County residents.
