Two people face charges in separate alleged road rage incidents this weekend, one on Interstate 79 in South Strabane Township and the other on a Canonsburg street.

John Davis Sarver, 60, of Maggie Valley, N.C., was arrested by state police after he allegedly pointed a gun at a Washington couple driving on I-79 southbound about two miles north of the north junction with Interstate 70 Sunday night. Jacqueline Rae Williams, 52, of 256 Parker St., Chartiers Township, is accused of pointing a gun at a car carrying four people, including a 5-year-old boy, Saturday afternoon on Greenside Avenue.

State police were called about 5:40 p.m. to the highway after a couple traveling in the southbound lanes reported that another driver, later identified as Sarver, pointed a gun at them.

The husband and wife told police they were going south when a Nissan pickup truck started tailgating them as they were passing a tractor-trailer. After passing the rig, the couple’s vehicle moved to the right. The pickup truck pulled alongside in the left lane, and police allege that Sarver pointed what was determined to be a loaded revolver at the couple before speeding off.

The Washington couple followed, got the license number and called 911. Sarver, who went west on I-70, got off at the Jefferson Avenue exit and turned left on Jefferson. Police said they found him in a parking lot at Jefferson and West Chestnut Street. Sarver continued driving around the lot before stopping on the side of the building.

State police initiated a traffic stop. Police said a loaded .22-caliber revolver was found in plain view on the front seat and was seized. They said a Mason jar containing marijuana was found in a bag in the bed of the truck.

Sarver told police he pointed the gun because a vehicle was following him and he was in fear for his life.

Sarver was arraigned before District Judge Ethan Ward on charges of simple assault, terroristic threats, carrying a firearm without a license, harassment, disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 14 before District Judge Jay Weller.

Canonsburg police said they will charge Williams with four counts of reckless endangerment stemming from Saturday’s incident. Samantha Findling of Canonsburg told police that Williams pulled out in front of her, forcing her to slam on the brakes and veer to the right. She said Williams was pointing a small black pistol at her.

Police said the two women knew each other and had been dating the same man at one point.

Williams denied pointing the gun at Findling and told police she was not aware others were in the vehicle. Police said the gun was found in the glovebox of Williams’ car when she was stopped in Chartiers. Police said Williams had a permit to carry the weapon, but it was confiscated.

Charges against Williams will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.
