Rink kicks off season with Halloween skate
GREENSBORO – More than 150 individuals attended the sixth annual “Halloween Skate & Dance” Nov. 1 at Mon View Roller Rink in Greensboro.
Sponsored by the Greene County commissioners and Behm Funeral Homes Inc., the event featured treats and skating activities.
Costume judging took place for funniest, ugliest, prettiest, scariest and most original costumes. Prizes were awarded in three different age categories: Ages 8-10, 11-13 and 14-17. All winners received $10 gift cards from Walmart.
The “Halloween Skate & Dance” kicked off the 2013-2014 skating season at Mon View Roller Rink. This season, every Friday will feature a “Skate & Dance” from 7 to 11 p.m., and open skating will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturdays. Admission for all attendees will be $8 on Friday nights and $5 on Saturday nights. Times and prices may change for special events.
Because of the holidays, the roller rink will be closed Nov. 29-30 and Dec. 27-28. The annual “All Night Skate” will finish out the year from 10 p.m. New Year’s Eve to 6 a.m. New Year’s Day. Admission is $10. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult, and registration and consent forms are required. Parents are encouraged to pick up children by 6 a.m.
After the “All Night Skate,” the roller rink will be closed for routine maintenance until Friday, Jan. 24, when it will reopen at 7 p.m. for the first 2014 “Skate & Dance.” The roller rink will then be open Saturday, Jan. 25, for open skating, and will continue to be open Fridays and Saturdays through Saturday, April 26, the rink’s last day.
The annual “Easter Egg Hunt & Skate” is planned for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at Mon View Park. Admission is $7 per child, and adult admission is free when accompanying a child.
Mon View is available to rent for private parties at a rate of $120 for two hours. The price covers admission and skate rental for 20 people. A fee of $3 per additional person will be charged. Skate lessons are also available by appointment only.
