• Action: Supervisors approved the minimum municipal obligations for the 2014 pension plans, which will be $217,208 for the police pension plan and $120,906 for the non-uniform pension plan.
Upon recommendation by Bill Bottorff, public works director, the board voted unanimously to hire Robert Barish, former director of public works in South Fayette Township, for the unadvertised position of permits officer for road encroachments and PA One Call. The part-time position pays $16.60 an hour.
Supervisors approved the creation of an additional foreman position within the public works department, which would increase the number of foremen to two. Bottorff said he would like to promote from within the department, and the promotion would create an additional cost between $1,500 and $4,000 for the township per year.
The board discussed the possibility of increasing the cost of a parking citation from $5 to $25 to deter drivers from parking in restricted areas.
Supervisors also discussed the issue of feral cats in the village of Muse. Chairman Tom Casciola introduced a motion to use money – which had been previously authorized to capture cats but was never used – to hire someone to capture and euthanize the stray cats with no stipulations. The motion died for lack of a second, and members discussed looking for someone who would hold the cats for 24 hours before euthanizing them so cat owners would have the chance to reclaim pets that may have escaped the house.
