Two men, one armed with a handgun and the other with a shotgun, robbed the Community Bank in Rogersville at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, leaving behind a small box on the counter one of the robbers indicated was a bomb.

No one was injured, state police said. The Allegheny County Bomb Squad was called and determined the package was not an explosive device.

An undisclosed amount of money was stolen.

One of the suspects is a black male, about 5-foot-7 inches to 5-foot-8 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds. The other suspect, a white male, is 5-foot-8 inches to 5-foot-10 inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds.

One of the men was wearing a mask, the other was not, said Tpr. Robert Cree, who was at the bank following the robbery.

Cree said police had no vehicle description and did not know which direction the suspects fled. Police later released a picture of one of the robbers taken by a bank video surveillance camera.

Police ask anyone with information on the robbery to call the Waynesburg barracks at 724-627-6151.

The bank has been robbed twice in about the last two years. The last time was March 19, when a person wearing a dark mask, dark sunglasses and latex gloves passed a note to a teller demanding cash. No gun was displayed. The robber was given money and fled on foot across the road into a residential neighborhood.

The previous robbery was in August 2011, when a man entered the bank and handed a teller a note in which he threatened to kill everyone in the bank.

Timothy Alan Bateman, who had recently moved to the area from Mississippi, was arrested for the robbery after a relative who lived in the Greene County area identified him from a bank surveillance photo published in the Observer-Reporter.

Bateman was convicted by a Greene County jury in March 2012 and later sentenced to 3 to 7 years in prison.
