A toddler’s piggy bank wasn’t off-limits for a thief who burglarized a Union Township home earlier this month.
Someone forced their way into a residence on Circle Drive and stole a vase containing $200 and pulled about $50 worth of change from a 2-year-old boy’s piggy bank, Southwest Regional police Chief John Hartman said.
“Kids’ piggy banks aren’t even safe anymore? Really?” Hartman said of the burglary. “Thefts occur, but you’re going to steal out of a kid’s piggy bank? Is anything off-limits? No, clearly nothing is off-limits.”
The child’s parents reported the burglary Monday night after they noticed the vase filled with money was gone, Hartman said. They later discovered all of the change in their young son’s piggy bank also was missing.
Hartman said nothing else was taken from the home.
“It speaks to the gravity of the incident,” Hartman said. “Nothing’s beyond the pale of possibility anymore.”
Investigators found scratches on a deadbolt lock and marks on a side door where the burglar entered the residence. Police think the burglary happened between Nov. 1 and 8.
