WAYNESBURG – Church Street in Waynesburg will be closed Nov. 25 and 26 to make way for the crane that will place a new fabricated statue of Gen. Nathanael Greene atop the Greene County Courthouse.

Fiske and Sons Inc., of Erie, a building preservation and restoration company, were hired in July by the Greene County commissioners to replace the existing statue of Greene that had fallen into disrepair.

The company was awarded a $95,000 contract to install a new dome and roof rafters, reanchor hold down rods for the statue on the interior of the tower, fabricate a steel hold down base, install weatherproofing and fabricate the new statue.

The 10-foot tall wood statue of the Revolutionary War commander, which previously adorned the courthouse dome, was placed there in 1998 by its creator Miles Davin, Sr. It will be replaced with a new fiberglass replica.
