The Shady Avenue Bridge in Burgettstown opened at noon Tuesday after nearly five months of construction to rebuild the deteriorating span.

Marricco Construction Company Inc. of Canonsburg completed the project for nearly $645,000 after beginning the work in July. Design and permit fees brought the total costs of the project to nearly $900,000.

Temporary detours were set up during construction of the bridge that spans the Burgetts Fork of Raccoon Creek in the borough.

The project removed a temporary bridge spanning the creek after engineers determined the previous structure was not able to carry heavier vehicles.
