Monongahela City Council will advertise today a proposed city budget of $2.6 million for next year, one that does not include a local real estate tax increase.

Council has held the millage rate at 23 mills for at least the past two consecutive years in a city where expenses have risen by $200,000 since 2011.

Mayor Bob Kepics said the city’s finances were helped this year by the sale of a garage on Chess Street for $30,000.

The tentative budget earmarks $1.2 million for the accounts and finance department, the largest share of taxpayer money. The public affairs department, which includes the police department, is expected to receive $729,261, city records show. The street department is earmarked to receive $445,639.
