Governor Tom Corbett today issued the following statement regarding the state Senate vote on a comprehensive transportation plan:

“Today, the state Senate kept the momentum moving on a dramatic piece of legislation that will keep our children safe, keep our businesses open and improve the quality of life for all Pennsylvanians.

“A comprehensive transportation plan has been years in the making and with today’s vote we have taken yet another step to preserve Pennsylvania’s future.

“My thanks to Senator John Rafferty for his leadership which started the legislative process toward passing a comprehensive transportation plan, as well as Senator Joseph Scarnatti and Senator Dominic Pileggi. I also applaud all those Senate members who showed the courage necessary to set Pennsylvania on a future path unmarred by poor bridges, rough roads and failing mass transit.”

PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch added:

“Governor Corbett’s leadership on this issue has been essential to advancing a bipartisan, comprehensive transportation plan. We look forward to final passage by the state House of Representatives.”
