UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Police in western Pennsylvania say a 17-year-old boy is dead after a shooting.

Uniontown police say 17-year-old Darrell Ross was shot Thursday at about 7:30 p.m. in a Uniontown house. He was transported to a hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., where he was pronounced dead. Uniontown is about 45 miles south of Pittsburgh.

Authorities say 20-year-old Hasani Simpkins claims he was playing with a .22-caliber revolver when the victim was shot, and that the two were not arguing. Simpkins, of Philadelphia, had been living in the house for several months.

Simpkins is facing criminal homicide and receiving stolen property charges, and is being held without bail in the county jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 26. No attorney was listed on court papers.
