PennDOT District 11 is announcing overnight single lane traffic on Route 28
In the City of Pittsburgh and Millvale Borough, Allegheny County, will continue Monday night, Nov. 25 weather permitting.
Single lane traffic on northbound Route 28 will occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday and Tuesday nights, Nov. 25-26. Single lane traffic will occur northbound and southbound on Route 28 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday-Thursday nights, Dec. 2-5. Additionally, single lane traffic will occur in both directions on Friday night, Dec. 6 from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday morning.
The work will occur between the 40th Street Bridge and East Ohio Street. Crews will be installing traffic cameras and sign lighting. (Note: The northbound lane closure will not occur until two hours after the end of any Penguins home game) PennDOT reminds motorists approaching lane restricted highway work zones to use all open lanes to the merge point. Please be courteous to other motorists and allow them to merge. The effectiveness of traffic flow in highway work zones is highly dependent on driver behavior. Zipper! Using all lanes and allowing a consistent, courteous merge will reduce congestion and delay and help traffic move through the work zone.
The work is part of the $36.4 million Route 28 Phase IV improvement project.
The prime contractor is the Trumbull Corporation of Pittsburgh. Overall work will conclude in fall 2014.
Motorists are advised to use caution and allow extra time when traveling on Route 28.
