UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A southwestern Pennsylvania man has been jailed on charges that he used a county credit card to purchase more than $31,000 worth of fuel.

The Fayette County public defender’s office says an attorney wasn’t available to comment on behalf of 45-year-old Shawn Allen Hall, of Masontown.

He’s been jailed since Monday when state police traced the purchases to him.

Troopers from the Uniontown barracks say a credit card used to refuel a county recycling truck was either lost or stolen in April 2012. For some unknown reason, the card was never deactivated.

Since then, police say, Hall used the card to buy more than 9,200 gallons of gasoline or diesel fuel at Pacific Pride service stations in Fayette and neighboring Greene counties.

Hall faces a preliminary hearing Dec. 3 on theft and related charges.
