MEADVILLE – A western Pennsylvania judge said “something needs to be done” to rectify the fact that a candidate’s name was left off the ballot.

Crawford County Judge Anthony Vardaro held a hearing Wednesday after the Crawford County Democratic Committee sued on behalf of Wayne Township resident Bruce Peterson, who won the party’s primary but was left off the November ballot by mistake.

The Meadville Tribune reported Peterson received just two write-in votes while Republican Lee Singleton received 187 votes for township supervisor. Singleton was on the ballot and Peterson was not.

The key question appears to be whether a special election should be held, or whether the position should be filled by an appointment made by the township’s other two supervisors. If that fails, the court could appoint a third supervisor to head the township.
