CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – Pennsylvania-based Consol has identified the worker who died of a head injury at its Energy’s McElroy mine in Marshall County.

In a news release late Friday, Consol spokeswoman Lynn Seay said the worker was 62-year-old Roger R. King. It said he was a senior longwall maintenance coordinator.

The West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training said it was investigating.

The accident happened just before 1 p.m. Friday, but it was not immediately clear how the worker was injured. King died on the way to the hospital.

Seay said Consol is working closely with state and federal investigators to determine the cause. McElroy operations have temporarily shut down and will resume at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The fatality is the sixth in West Virginia so far this year.
