Making a strong statement against TV
This week’s Mystery Photo seems to contain a message. Maybe the idea is that kids should spend more time reading books and less time watching television.
That was good advice when this picture was taken sometime in the late 1960s or early 1970s by one of the staffers in the Observer-Reporter’s Canonsburg office. It’s still good advice, especially since there is so much more electronic entertainment to distract young minds.
We guess this photo was taken to promote a reading program in one of our area’s grade schools or libraries, but which one?
We hope our readers can help us identify not just the location but the two youngters oddly placed not in chairs but on top of a table. The girl is reading “The Story of Babar,” by the way.
If you think you know who these kids are (they’d be at least in their late 40s by now), email Park Burroughs, retired executive editor, at pburroughs@observer-reporter.com, or call and leave a message for him along with your phone number at 724-222-2200, extension 2400.
With a little luck and help from you, we’ll be able to solve this mystery and publish our findings next Monday.
