Attorney Susan Mondik Key, who is representing the Washington and McGuffey school districts in the Washington County property reassessment case, said a statement in a story published Friday that school districts may not increase their revenue by more than 10 percent in the year following a reassessment was incorrect. Key said the law cited at a meeting of real estate professionals with reassessment officials was trumped by Act 1 of 2006. Under Act 1, school districts may not increase their revenue by more than an index of between 2 percent and 3 percent. Brad Boni, Washington County chief assessor, said the Consolidated County Assessment Law has an anti-windfall provision that municipalities and counties cannot increase taxes by more than 10 percent in the year following a reassessment, not 5 percent as was discussed at the meeting.
