UPPER DARBY (AP) – A central Pennsylvania man’s charges of kidnapping and killing a missing baby are being sent to county court for trial.

The York Dispatch reported that 30-year-old Ummad Rushdi of York was in court Monday when an Upper Darby district judge ruled there was sufficient evidence for the case to proceed.

Police said Rushdi kidnapped 7-month-old Hamza Ali in early August from Rushdi’s parents’ home in the Philadelphia suburb.

Investigators believe Rushdi killed the child and buried the body, although an extensive search failed to locate him. Police said Rushdi has described the child’s death as accidental.

Rushdi and the boy’s mother, Zainab Gaal, shared a home in the York suburbs with Rushdi’s brother and others.
