A Charleroi man accused of impersonating a Southwest Regional police officer last month waived his right to a preliminary hearing and will head to trial.

Vincent Ambrosy, 22, of 401 Woodward Ave., waived his hearing Tuesday before District Judge James Ellis after a prolonged discussion with family members and his public defender. Ambrosy will undergo six months of mental health treatment, and Ellis reduced his $50,000 bond and allowed him to be released from Washington County jail on his own recognizance.

Ambrosy was charged by Southwest Regional police with unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, impersonating a public servant and harassment for allegedly identifying himself as a Southwest officer when he pulled over a Monongahela man’s vehicle on Route 837 May 16.

Ambrosy admitted to police that he initiated a traffic stop on Dustin Ginsburg. He told police that he knew who Ginsburg was, but admitted the man did not know him. He also admitted to telling Ginsburg that he worked for Southwest Regional police.
