Two bicyclists suffered serious injuries when they were struck by a car Sunday afternoon near the Hickory Apple Festival in Mt. Pleasant Township.
Mt. Pleasant police Chief Louis McQuillan said a motorist was trying to turn around in a driveway in the 400 block of Ridge Road when the car hit the two bikers about 1 p.m. He did not release the driver’s name because the crash remains under investigation.
One bicyclist slid beneath the car while the other went over the hood and struck the windshield, McQuillan said. One had facial wounds while the other had a severe leg injury, he said. Both were flown by medical helicopter to Pittsburgh area hospitals, although McQuillan did not know their identities or their conditions.
He said a hayride from the Hickory Apple Festival might have obscured the driver’s view.
