Washington City Council delayed a vote on whether to buy parking meters that accept credit card payments.

Officials said they need more time to review the plan and weigh whether the upgraded technology would be useful in the city’s business district.

The Washington Business District Authority offered to donate $20,000 to the city to buy the 40 new parking meters. However, there are still questions about whether the credit card-operated meters would be economically feasible due to high transaction and maintenance fees.

Council did not give a timeline on when it might reconsider the option.
