Pleaders sentenced in county court

WAYNESBURG – Several criminal defendants pleaded guilty Wednesday before Greene County Judge Farley Toothman. They included the following:
Bobby Joe Willy, 31, of 419 Mountainview Gardens, Waynesburg; offenses – driving under the infuence third offense, DUI incapable of safe driving and three summary offenses. Willy was spotted by police weaving and crossing the center line along Route 21 in Cumberland Township on July 17. Willy’s blood-alcohol level was 0.135 percent; sentence -71 days in jail with credit for time served, plus all court costs, fees and fines.
Douglas Edward Riley, 25, of 773 S. Branch Muddy Creek, Carmichaels; offense – theft by unlawful taking. Riley stole a television set from Freda Pyle of Jefferson on July 4; sentence – 95 days to 23 ½ months in jail with credit for 95 days served, $250 in fines, plus court costs and fees, restitution to Pyle of $63, and 50 hours of community service.
William Joseph Kuhn, Jr., 32, of 155 Wayne Village, Waynesburg; offenses – theft by unlawful taking, criminal mischief, and criminal trespass. Kuhn was arrested Oct. 3, 2011, for stealing copper wire and other materials from an abandoned house at 1394 Jefferson Road, Jefferson that he then sold for scrap; sentence -10 days to one year in jail with credit for five days served, restitution to Louis Santucci of $650, $400 in fines plus court costs and fees, and 75 hours of community service. This sentence is to be served consecutively to a sentence in Fayette County.
Clint Allen Matthews, 31, and Jessica Ann Childs, 32, both of 239 Conger Road, Prosperity; offenses – person not to possess or transfer firearms, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Matthews was arrested May 7 when police went to his residence in response to a tip that drugs were being sold or manufactured at his residence. His wife, Childs, gave police permission to search the premises and they found two .22-caliber rifles and two shotguns. Both are prohibited from possessing guns due to a prior drug related conviction; sentence – three years in the county intermediate punishment program with work release, $1,000 in fines plus court costs and fees, and 75 hours of community service.
David William Hodgson, 21, of 475 Third St., Waynesburg; offenses – burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking and criminal mischief. Hodgson was arrested March 27, 2012, for breaking into the home of Kimberly Leanne Thorne. Hodgson and a male accomplice smashed a kitchen next to a door to enable them to unlock the door and gain entry to the home at 159 Wayne Village in Franklin Township. They stole a small amount of cash; sentence – pending presentence investigation.
Robert D. Cumberland, 32, of 273 Fourth Ave., Crucible; offenses – recklessly endangering another person and simple assault. Cumberland was arrested Feb. 22 for assaulting his wife, Belinda Cumberland, who told police he came home intoxicated and accused her of cheating on him. Cumberland then began to punch her. Police were called to Southwest Regional Medical Center where Belinda Cumberland was taken for treatment. sentence – pending a presentence investigation.
Jerry Wayne Davis, 53, of 282 Sheriton Ave., Nemacolin; offenses -DUI and a summary traffic violation. Davis was arrested May 17 when he failed to stop for a stop sign in Cumberland Township near Nemacolin Lane. His BAC was 0.112 percent; sentence – 48 hours to 6 months in jail, $525 in fines plus court costs and fees, and 50 hours of community service.
Gary Lee Black, Jr., 26, of 2829 West Roy Furman Hwy, Waynesburg; offenses – DUI and seven summary traffic violations. Black was involved in a one-vehicle accident Feb. 22 in Jefferson Township. His BAC was 0.172 percent; sentence – 72 hours to 6 months in jail, $1,635 in fines plus court costs and fees, and 75 hours of community service.
