Commissioners act on school roof issue

WAYNESBURG – Greene County commissioners Thursday accepted a $24,500 proposal from Eads Architects Inc., to design bids to implement repairs and replace the roof at the Ben Franklin building on High Street.

Chief Clerk Jeff Marshall said he expects a contract to be awarded by the end of the year with work scheduled to begin next spring.

The commissioners also awarded a $26,500 contract to Higgins Hauling of Waynesburg for renovations to the concrete deck at the waterpark on Route 21. The other bid was from Portview Plumbing of McKeesport, for $35,900.

Also, Corbly Orndoff and Charles Day were reappointed to three-year terms on the Farmland Preservation Board of Directors.

Following the meeting, the county salary board approved the hiring of Kelli Koval as an economic development associate at a rate of $13.01 and hour.

In matters pertaining to the jail, the salary board approved the promotions of Justin Stechly and Wilmer Smith to full-time corrections officers at a salary of $15.02 an hour; approved the promotions of Tina Smith and Brian Bundy as part-time corrections officers at $14.02 an hour; and accepted the resignation of Autumn Wozny as a corrections officer, effective Oct. 9.

The salary board also approved a pay increases for two employees in the human service department. Zabryna Karnes received an increase to $13.02 an hour and Amy Switalski, program director, received a pay adjustment to $44,183.99 per year.
