• Date: Oct. 17

• Action: As expected, the Washington County commissioners approved an $83,626 contract with Pictometry International Corp. of Rochester, N.Y., to perform an aerial survey of the county in the spring to be used in the property reassessment.

At the request of the county planning commission, the board entered into a contract with SAI Consulting Engineers as prepared by the state Department of Transportation for the design of the Miller’s Run No. 3 bridge on Mawhinney Road, Cecil Township, at a cost of $377,512. Eighty percent of the cost will be borne by state taxpayers and 20 percent will be paid by the county’s liquid fuels allocation.

The commissioners leaned the Victims of Crimes Act grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency will include an increase of $18,758 from federal taxpayers. Mary Volkar will provide consulting services for the Victims of Crime Act program through June 30, 2015, at a cost not to exceed $12,820.

At the request of the finance department and court administration, the commissioners approved an addendum to the contract with Child Custody Officer John Richards increasing the annual limit to $50,000 from a previous $35,000. Even with the increase, the fee is under the budgeted amount, officials said.

Also on behalf of court administration, the county entered into a contract with Pittsburgh Hearing and Deaf Services Inc. for interpreters at a cost of $50 to $60 an hour between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The board authorized advertising for proposals from firms to complete the Washington County economic strategy update and inventory project using money from the Local Share Account of gambling revenues from The Meadows Racetrack & Casino’ architect and engineering services; and garage space for the public safety department’s command-post vehicle.

Also from the Local Share Account, the commissioners authorized the purchase of $26,566 worth of items needed for the electronic medical records transition at the health center. The purchases are being made through a state contract that does not require bidding.

• Appointments: Post-election canvass board, Margery McKinley, David and Kathy Kresh, Myrna Calabro, Carolyn Dunklin, Leona Alexis, Paulie Chappel and Becky Welsh.

• Attendance: Commission Vice Chairman Diana Irey Vaughan was absent.

• Next meeting: 10 a.m. Nov. 7 in the public meeting room of the Courthouse Square office building.
