Smoking, oxygen tanks cited in fatal fire

CASTLE SHANNON (AP) – Authorities in Western Pennsylvania say they believe smoking that ignited oxygen tanks started a pre-dawn fire in a Pittsburgh-area duplex that killed an elderly man.
Firefighters in Allegheny County say the blaze was reported shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday in Castle Shannon.
Officials said a neighbor first saw the flames and managed to get the victim out of the house and onto the porch, but was forced to retreat due to the flames.
The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said 75-year-old Donald Dyson died of both burns and smoke inhalation.
Officials said there was initial confusion about the gender of the person because a woman lives in the home, but she was in a hospital at the time of the fire.
