WAYNESBURG – The inaugural Flashlight Fright Night will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Greene County Historical Society Museum on Rolling Meadows Road.

Activities inside and outside the museum will include lantern-lit haunted museum tours, a haunted hayride, a Halloween costume contest, musical entertainment by DJ Dave Plavi, refreshments, horror films showing all night in the museum barn “theater” and frightful creatures everywhere.

Candace Tustin, administrative assistant for the county’s tourism department and for the historical society’s board of directors, came up with this idea and is the primary organizer of the event. “We have so many surprises planned for that night,” Tustin said.

She also issued a dire warning for those who attend. “If you are scared of the dark, bring a flashlight because it’s lights out on this night out.” And, keep in mind, she said, the Greene County Museum building and grounds are a rich piece of the county’s history, as the site was the County Poor Farm from the 1860’s through 1964.

The farm was home to the destitute, the developmentally disabled, mentally ill, insane, widowed, deaf, mute, the blind and those who were deemed “wards of the county.” Read more at www.greenecountyhistory.com/exhibits.html.

Sponsors of the Flashlight Fright Night are Brian Tennant, Cory Grandel, In Motion Dance & Fitness and Stage Door, and state Sen. Tim Solobay.
