WAYNESBURG – The Greene County Unit of the Salvation Army will hold its monthly Produce to People food distribution from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Greene County Fairgrounds.

With food provided by the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, volunteers from the Salvation Army distribute whole fruits and vegetables to 500 to 650 families during the two-hour event.

“Many people in the county are struggling to make ends meet,” said Sister Audrey Quinn, director of the Salvation Army in Greene County. “This food distribution fills a basic need for the households that participate.”

Volunteers should be able to lift and stand for four hours and be available to assist with set up and cleanup. Volunteers must sign up prior to attending.

“Without our volunteers we would be unable to serve the more than 500 households each month,” Quinn said.

Households eligible for food distribution must fall under the 150 percent of the federal poverty level, receive Social Security, disability, Medicare, Medicaid or SNAP benefits, or be experiencing a temporary food emergency.

Registration for income-eligible households will occur at the event.

Between 35 to 50 pounds of food is given to each family per distribution. Families are urged to bring large boxes, carts or wagons to carry out the food.

Produce to People also will distribute food at the fairgrounds Nov. 19 and Dec. 19.

For more information or to sign up, call Quinn at 724-852-1479 or email at Audrey.Quinn@USE.Salvation Army.org.
