Residents of about 15 homes in a housing plan off Muse-Bishop Road in Cecil Township were evacuated from their homes for about two hours after a contractor hit a gas line at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Cecil Township police said the 8-inch line was hit on Oakbrooke Drive, near Winterberry Drive. Because the wind was blowing in the direction of the homes, the decision was made to evacuate the residents, police said, until a Columbia Gas crew arrived to shut off the line. Brynnly Schwartz, a spokeswoman for Columbia Gas, said crews arrived and the “situation was made safe” before 2:30 p.m., when the gas was turned off. She said repairs were expected to be completed by early evening. Residents were able to return to their homes.
