ACLU: McKees Rocks singling out GOP campaign signs

MCKEES ROCKS – The American Civil Liberties Union is threatening to sue a Pittsburgh suburb for allegedly singling out Republican campaign signs in a crackdown to remove such items from public rights of way.
The ACLU sent a letter Wednesday to Robinson Township officials. Township manager Jeffrey Silka says he isn’t commenting because “it is a legal issue and a subject of potential litigation.”
The letter takes issue with an ordinance regulating campaign signs on all property, but specifically claims that signs for Republican township commissioner candidates seem to have been removed to the exclusion of other signs.
The ACLU claims it will sue if the township doesn’t respond to the letter by Friday.
In the letter, the ACLU says, “Such uneven enforcement represents viewpoint censorship, making the law presumptively unconstitutional.”
