State police said they do not plan to file charges against a Canonsburg man who accidentally shot his friend in the leg at a Somerset Township residence last week.

Thomas M. Vey Jr., 25, was apparently unloading the handgun when he shot the other man, Andrew J. Barcus, 27, of Bentleyville, in the leg about 9:30 p.m. Oct. 23.

Vey was handling Barcus’ handgun when the incident happened inside the residence at 398 Lusk Road in Somerset Township. Police said Vey will not face charges and they have closed the investigation.

Troopers did not say how seriously Barcus was injured in the incident.
