Two Canton Township men already awaiting trial for allegedly burglarizing businesses in North Franklin and Canton townships were charged Friday by North Strabane Township police in connection with a June 7 burglary.
Joseph David Boone, 20, of 489 McKee Road, and Jason Alexander Carpenter, 20, of 25 Midland Drive, are each accused of burglarizing Terra Testing, 260 Meadowlands Boulevard. Police said Boone had worked for the company but had been terminated.
A supervisor at the company told police that entry was made through a back door and into a workshop. Tools and equipment were stolen from the workshop while money, credit cards, office supplies and a television were stolen from an office.
It was later discovered that two pickup trucks were stolen. The trucks were found the next day by state police outside Avella.
Boone and Carpenter are each awaiting trial for allegedly burglarizing Angelo’s restaurant, 2108 North Franklin Drive, North Franklin, and Shorty’s restaurant, 2301 Jefferson Ave., Canton, also in June. The pair also reportedly tried to break into Chuck’s Archery, also at 2301 Jefferson.
During their investigation of the Angelo’s burglary, North Franklin police learned that Boone and two friends were responsible for the burglary at Terra Testing.
Boone reportedly admitted his participation in the Terra Testing break-in to North Strabane police. Forensic testing was performed on his cellphone and it was determined he had been in the area where the stolen vehicles were abandoned. It also showed calls between Boone and Carpenter.
The charge against Carpenter will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller. Boone will be arraigned at a later date.
