WARREN (AP) – An environmental group has filed a lawsuit against a Western Pennsylvania wastewater treatment plant.

Clean Water Action say they filed the federal lawsuit against Waste Treatment Corporation of Warren. That’s about 140 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, near the New York border.

The group alleges that the firm is discharging wastewater from oil and gas drilling into the Allegheny River, and that aquatic life is being damaged by high levels of salts, metals, chlorides, and naturally occurring radioactive material.

Waste Treatment did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but the firm’s website says it takes waste from New York and Pennsylvania.

Clean Water Action says they’re open to discussions, but that a lack of action on the problems led to the lawsuit.
