Supervisor announces run for representative
A Cecil Township supervisor has announced his plans to run for state representative in the 46th District in next year’s Democratic primary.
Tom Casciola, 59, who has served as township supervisor for 22 years, said voters “need a choice.” He will be running against incumbent Jesse White of Cecil and Burgettstown attorney Paul Walsh.
Casciola said that if elected, he would focus on amending Act 13, the state’s law governing oil and gas drilling.
“As a township official, I’m not against the state being involved,” he said. “Every legislator I’ve talked to didn’t have a clue about what they were signing or what the impact of Act 13 is going to have on the municipalities. I think right off the bat, I can help them a lot to rewrite that so that it works for the municipalities, but also works for the drillers and the landowners alike.” Casciola said he believes Act 13 is positive because it relieves some of the burden on municipalities.
In addition to serving as township supervisor, Casciola is a homebuilder with Casciola Homes, Inc. He previously served on the Canon-McMillan School Board.
He is a U.S. Army veteran and has a degree in biology and chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh.
The reapportioned 46th district will include Canton, Mt. Pleasant, Robinson and Smith townships in Washington County, plus Burgettstown and Midway. The 46th District’s territory expands into Collier and South Fayette townships in Allegheny County, along with Bridgeville, Heidelberg, Oakdale and all of McDonald Borough.
