A Washington teenager faces several charges after he reportedly crashed his vehicle into an unmarked North Franklin Township police cruiser and then led another officer on a chase through the Bellevue section of the township early Sunday.

Kameron Keene, 19, of 350 Hart Ave., has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, underage DUI, leaving the scene of a crash, reckless endangerment, fleeing or attempting to elude police and several traffic violations.

Township police Officer David Borkowski was responding about 1:35 a.m. for a report of vandalism in the area of 167 Bellevue Ave. Borkowski spotted Tammy Robinson, 43, of Washington, who was walking in the area of 153 Baltimore Ave. He activated his emergency lights and pulled into the oncoming lane so he could talk to her.

A Jeep approached at a high speed around a bend, skidded 36 feet and crashed into the front of the police car. The Jeep, driven by Keene, slid on some grass before speeding off.

Township police Sgt. Jerry Cavanaugh was in the area and heard the crash. As he turned on to Grove Avenue, Cavanaugh spotted the Jeep traveling at a high rate of speed. Cavanaugh pursued the Jeep on Baltimore and Cumberland avenues. As a Washington police cruiser approached off West Chestnut Street to Cumberland, Keene pulled into a parking lot and stopped his vehicle.

Police said Keene’s blood alcohol content was eight times the 0.02 limit presumed for intoxication of drivers under the age of 21.

Robinson, who was leaning against the cruiser when it was hit, was treated at Washington Hospital for a sprained arm. Borkowski complained of back pain.

Washington police investigated the crash since it involved a township vehicle.

Charges against Keene will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
