An American bulldog that had been deemed a “dangerous dog” by law after attacking two other dogs in Canonsburg was euthanized by his owner this week.

The owner, Sean Kenavey, of Hutchinson Avenue, Canonsburg, sent a letter to a Pittsburgh media outlet announcing that he put his dog, Zeus, to rest. Kenavey wrote in the letter that although Zeus was not an evil creature, he hoped the decision would help the community feel at ease.

Kenavey pleaded guilty to charges of harboring a dangerous dog earlier this month during a hearing at the office of District Judge David Mark.

Zeus had attacked a dachshund in August, requiring the dog to undergo surgery, and also attacked a greyhound prior to that incident in February. If Kenavey had chosen to keep Zeus, he would have been required to pay a $500 registration fee and a hefty sum for liability insurance.
