CHARLEROI – Charleroi Area School District will seek a new superintendent to take the district “in a different direction,” the board president said Wednesday.
The board voted 7-2 Tuesday to replace Brad Ferko after his contract expires at the end of June, school board President Ken Wiltz said.
“His contract had to be renewed or reopened,” Wiltz said, declining to discuss the reasons directors wanted to replace Ferko, who has been with the district 10 years.
“He did a good job,” Wiltz said.
Ferko was paid nearly $126,000 a year.
Directors Adele Hopkins and Elaine Pappasergi cast the two no votes.
Ferko said he “loved my time” at Charleroi and wanted to thank the community, parents and students for having the opportunity to work with them.
“It’s been a great 10 years,” Ferko said.
He said he planned to continue working in Charleroi through the end of his contract.
