WAYNESBURG – As the growing season swelters into fall and the rain stops long enough for the tomatoes to ripen, the Waynesburg Farmers Market continues to bring sweet surprises to those who stop by every Wednesday to get their fresh produce and sometimes more.

Tomorrow is no exception.

“The pasta boys are back,” shopper Kimberly Mowl exclaimed, beaming as she stopped by to satisfy her urge for freshly made pasta and other Italian goodies at Bill Fontana’s refrigerated truck. Callifonte Foods Inc. was back by popular demand last Wednesday and found the turnout so good that they are planning to be at the market tomorrow as well, and Mowl couldn’t be happier.

“Bill called me and said that he will be down tomorrow. He has good Italian items. I buy from him each time and I just love what he has,” she said. He also said he will be running a special:

Those who spend $15 or more, receive a free 30 ounce frozen marinara sauce.

It’s this kind of serious support that keeps vendors coming back to satisfy their customers who not only come out for produce, wine, beauty products, plants and baked goods, but also sometimes stay to buy sandwiches and hot dogs and do lunch on the courthouse lawn.

Greene County Tourism’s Candice Tustin is one of the first ones out Wednesday mornings, making the list of what’s available as the vendors set up, then firing off an email blast to let co-workers around Waynesburg know what’s out there for them to buy.

Those who love fresh Italian pasta and some very special homemade sauces to go with those fresh tomatoes should plan to stop by between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. There are reserved parking spaces in front of the courthouse waiting for them.
