University to host guest arts exhibition
WAYNESBURG – Waynesburg University will hold a guest art exhibition in the Benedum Fine Arts Gallery Sept. 16-Oct. 11, featuring the work of Ryan Jackson. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 16. Admission is free and the public is invited.
Jackson, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, has been showing his artwork in galleries and universities throughout the United States for the past 12 years. His work uses found images that are culled from various sources as armatures to explore painting. Jackson’s recent series examines perceptions of good and evil in our world and juxtaposes human nature with the principles of God’s word.
His paintings wrestle with major events that have shaped our lives, with the illusion of power and control in a world that is in chaos and quickly passing away. Through his work, Jackson’s goal is to scrutinize humanity’s natural gravitation toward darkness and death.
Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by appointment.
