Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania said Monday it will begin a $780,000 pipeline upgrade on five roads in South Strabane Township.

The project will involve the replacement of more than 6,200 feet of existing pipe on Route 40 (East Maiden Street), Route 19 (Waynesburg Road), Sanitarium Road, Short Road and Braddock Drive.

Columbia Gas said in a news release the entire project is expected to be completed by the end of December and will benefit 47 customers.

Construction will take place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with temporary lane closures during working hours only.

Columbia said the construction work will require a temporary interruption of natural gas service for individual customers while their service is connected to the new gas main. Columbia will make personal contact with customers prior to shutting off service and to schedule service restoration.
