The 25th Annual Senior Expo will be held Sept. 19 at Washington Crown Center.

The event, introduced by Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging in 1988, is now a joint effort that includes state Sen. Tim Solobay, state Reps. Brandon Neuman and Jesse White, and the Washington County commissioners.

“It’s hard to believe that we’ve reached the silver anniversary already,” Solobay said. “It says a lot about the individuals who help put this on and the folks who turn out every year. A lot has changed over 25 years, and we work with dozens of agencies to make sure we can help local seniors keep up with it.”

This year, more than 100 local, state and federal agencies along with area businesses will be at Washington Crown Center to provide information on products and services of specific interest to older adults.

Brian Duke, the top official at Pennsylvania’s Department of Aging, will attend, along with local radio personality Pete Povich, who will begin broadcasting at 10 a.m. near the food court. Complimentary refreshments will be available while they last.

Each year, in addition to hosting the vendors, the Senior Expo offers a varied stage lineup. This year’s entertainers will include the Silver Sky Duo and Bobby Shawn.

At 12:45 p.m., a special silver anniversary cake will be cut and shortly afterward Senior Expo vendors will award dozens of prizes, including two Harrisburg trips for two. The expo will close at 3 p.m.
