PITTSBURGH (AP) — A former University of Pittsburgh football player has been ordered to stand trial in the robbery of a Pittsburgh bank that prompted a SWAT response last month.

Twenty-five-year-old Jovani Chappel waived a preliminary hearing Thursday on felony robbery charges in the Aug. 26 holdup of the PNC branch in the Greenfield neighborhood of the city.

Defense attorney Eric Fisher declined comment but said his client had been released after posting $50,000 bond.

Police say a witness saw the license plate of the robber and a SWAT team later surrounded the house of Chappel’s girlfriend, and he was later found on a nearby porch and arrested.

Chappel graduated in 2010 after playing in 37 games over four years as a defensive back. He made 123 tackles and two interceptions.
