PITTSBURGH (AP) – Authorities say a man allegedly shot during a bar fight by an off-duty Pittsburgh officer was the officer’s longtime friend.

Authorities have yet to release the name of the 56-year-old officer being investigating in the shooting early Sunday of 56-year-old Shawn Evans.

Evans was married to Norma Condrin, who owns Condrin’s Tavern in the city’s Bloomfield neighborhood, where Evans was fatally wounded about 2:30 a.m.

Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard says the officer is not being charged pending a review of the shooting by the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities say a witness saw the officer fighting with Evans before shooting him at the bar.

Richard says the officer has been off work on workers’ compensation since 2010. Police haven’t said if he remained authorized to carry a gun.
